e-Learning

How e-Learning Works
Large corporations have been utilizing both conference calling and web-conferencing for years to help staff around the world keep in touch and "see" each others' computers. CPC is now able to utilize this technology to bring its premier education programs to anyone in the US or Canada with a just phone and a PC with an internet connection.

It's so easy! You call a toll-free number and sign on to a web page from your PC (all the details are included in your invitation).  Parrot Connection's PowerPoint presentation and video sessions are uploaded to our provider's server, and you view them through your web browser with your dial-up or broadband connection. There's no software to download! Your instructor guides everyone in the e-class through the presentation via the telephone conference.

Our web-conferencing provider has various tools and features to make your online learning experience such as notes (you can save them after the class), live "IM" chats and running comments to the instructor, as well as some fun online polls and surveys (evaluations).

We can't wait to "see" you in a future e-Learning class.

How does CPC's e-Learning program benefit the environment, and what does it mean to me and my birds?

1. It saves YOU money

  • Gas prices have been fluctuating between $2.50 and almost $4 a gallon for some time. By not driving to each class, most of our students will save about $30/trip in gas alone (not to mention wear and tear on the car). Besides, let's face it, we need that money to support or feathered kids!

2. Reduction in travel to and from classes/consultations reduces air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions:

  • Emissions from motor vehicles are the primary source of ozone-causing pollutants, accounting for about 30-40% of these pollutants.
  • Ozone pollution is of particular concern to people with asthma and other respiratory problems, because when it is breathed into the lungs, ozone reacts with lung tissue. It can harm breathing passages, making it more difficult for the lungs to work. Parrots and other birds have adapted extremely efficient respiratory systems allowing them to fly by increasing the amount of air and oxygen utilized. This adaptation makes birds especially susceptible to fumes and pollution. On days when ozone pollution is at its worst, these factors put your parrots at increased risk for respiratory problems.

3. Distribution of handouts in pdf format reduces paper waste:

  • thereby reducing landfills. Landfill is polluting no matter how well run the site; methane escapes into the atmosphere contributing to climate change. We are running out of landfill space and nobody wants a new site next to their homes or in an area of natural beauty
  • so less habitat damage/destruction occurs in order to extract new resources
  • and CPC can use the cost savings to benefit the birds and to develop additional programs

4. Our office reduces additional greenhouse gasses:

  • Our Operations Office in California's Central Valley (from which most of our seminars are taught) is powered by SMUD's Greenergy Program. 100% of the energy powering the computers, telephone and office equipment comes from green, renewable resources like wind (68%), sun and water.
